Kitchen FAQ’s

  • What are the steps once the frame arrives?

In most cases, frame arrives, apply backer board (pictured here), apply counter top, apply facia, then install appliances.

  • What are the reasons you recommend the frame?

The metal frame is aluminum and Stainless Steel so it will never rust and have streaks running out from under the cabinet. It offers extraordinary flexibility in custom design like small rounded areas, floating bars, reduced overall weight (for deck installations), increase in usable storage space and alot more. The biggest reason is it is entirely non combustible.

  • My space is really tight what options are there for more work space?

We can make anything for you. In this case the customer just need a little more room but couldn't sacrifice his view of the Savannah River from the inside of the home. This custom made fold down stainless steel shelf was just the ticket.

  • What about outdoor television?

Making the retractible into ceilings or storage cabinets make them last much longer and you don't always have a big TV in the middle of the room for those times you really don't want one on.

  • How do I make gas lines safer?

This is the best $80.00 you will ever spend. Install on/off valves for sure but an auto shut off timer could literally save your house. This is a 3 hour egg timer that shuts the entire gas line down at the end of the time you select. We recommend them on all outdoor gas appliances including fire pits and outdoor kitchens.

  • What can you use corners for?

Sinks are the most common but in this case we used a corner to counter set an EVO 25" TT grill for a fully functional grilling corner right in front of the dining bar.

  • Why are some of the grills lowered?

in some cases, like the Firemagic Power Burner pictured here, it makes sense for the grill to be lower so that the top of the cook pot won't be up in your face while cooking. It also helps when lifting the, full and often very hot, pot onto and off the gill.

  • What can be done for ventilation?

Ventilation is REALLY important. It doesn't mean that you have to have ugly vents all over though. In this case the brick mason simple left inconspicuous slots open every 18" so that the natural gas had an escape route if there was a leak. NOTE For propane the ventilation should be at the bottom of the cabinet as propane is a heavier than air gas.

  • What about using wood in my Outdoor Kitchen?

You can do it but in small amounts and only when completely protected by a firewall barrier. In this case we used 2" thick cedar shelves on the left side of the picture and we have a fire barrier between the grill and the shelf.

  • I love the EVO but where can I put that lid?

Hanging it on an end cap is a great solution, we carry the clips in stock.

  • Can I install a sound system?

You can do anything, it's a matter of time and money...my time and..well you get the point. Sound systems are easy to build in and we can include it in your design. We do recommend a professional Audio Video be involved in the install though so you get the best possible outcome.

  • Can an outdoor kitchen be portable?

Absolutely, this one is 8' long and has a 250lb grill in it. It is designed to handle up to 800lbs and is extremely easy to move. Our frame design allows us to hide the wheels in the toe kick and make your kitchen quite easy to move around.

  • Do I need a hood?

It really depends on the natural cross ventilation and what you want regarding smoke in the area. Some customers have zero tolerance for smoke and others don't mind. In any case we have tons of venting solutions and can make your outdoor living area smoke free if you like.

  • What about existing columns?

It can be an issue but building around them and making the finished product appear to be a part of the column gives a much more finished look.

  • What about utility space for working on lines?

It's very important that you be able to access the gas and water lines. In this case we were able to put black doors on the back of the cabinet to offer a discreet but really function access to both gas and water.

  • What can I do to keep an all stainless steel kitchen from looking sterile?

Adding a different medium to the end caps, back sides and toe kicks makes a huge difference.

  • What about overhang and granite support?

This is one of the great things about Stainless Steel. We can make an under counter support that has no corrible to hit your knee on. In this case the granite has a 21" overhand supported entirely by stainless bars.

  • What are my back splash options?

We can make your back splash from anything you like but have learned that several products work better than others. In this case we used flexible slate stone to make a perfect one piece, round stone backsplash for under $250.00.

  • What products can be made with your frame?

Anything you like, we have made fire pits, fire places, chimneys, kitchens, cabins, serving bars, dining tables, grill tables, serving islands and we're making more right now.

  • Does the Marine Plastic really work?

It is definitely one of the best materials for this type of build and can be done in any manner or style. It is really easy to clean and holds up beautifully in full sun.
